Tantrum in public
You're in the grocery store and your kid hit the floor. Strangers are watching.
Try saying
- “This is too much. I've got you.”
Floor meltdown in the cereal aisle
- “We're going to step outside for a minute.”

- “You're not in trouble.”

For each age
Preschool (3–5)
- “This store is a lot. Let's find a quiet spot.”
- “You don't have to talk. I'm staying with you.”
- “We can leave the cart. We can come back.”
Giving permission to leave the cart breaks the productivity panic that fuels the parent spiral.
Toddler (1–3)
- “This is too much. I've got you.”
- “We're going to step outside for a minute.”
- “You're not in trouble.”
Public meltdowns are sensory overload as much as emotion. Removing input is faster than reasoning.
