Ending screen time

The show is over and you can feel the protest coming.

Try saying

“Five minutes till we're off.” Show ends, protest starts
“I'm not making this a thing. I just need you to wrap it up.” Show ends, protest starts
“You can be annoyed. The screen still goes off.” Show ends, protest starts

For each age

School (5–12)

“Five minutes till we're off.”
“I'm not making this a thing. I just need you to wrap it up.”
“You can be annoyed. The screen still goes off.”

Naming "I'm not making this a thing" takes the script away from the kid who expected a lecture.

Preschool (3–5)

“Two more minutes. I'm setting a timer.”
“Endings are hard. I get it.”
“Show's over. Snack's ready.”

Give the warning standing near the screen, not from across the room. Proximity at the warning is the difference between a transition and a battle.
